honey bunny After leaving the happiest place on earth, I managed to make it to the non profit Echo Park Film Center at 1200 N. Alvarado Street for Margie Schnibbe's Birthday Party, "An Evening of Sex and Bunnies". Margie, does work for Vivid Video, and this screening featured an artistic "re-imagining, re-mixing, and re-shooting" of her latest commercial film for Vivid, "Honey Bunny". This "re-imagining" was done by 4 Brooklyn artists at Monkey Town Video in New York where it was presented as a 4 screen multimedia installation. Here in the small Echo Park Film Center, the 4 screens were put on one screen for this "art screening" of Honey Bunny. Margie has a large body of work involving Bunnies, as well as her professional career with Vivid. There was a fat guy in a bunny suit too. Just in case you don't believe me, here's the snapshots. Friday the Thirteenth is now over, until further notice. |

"Pulp" I'm watching Michael Caine in the oddball 1972 'comedy' Pulp being broadcast over the air on KTLA DT 5.2 The stranger on the bus has just been found stabbed in his hotel bathtub, and is outed as a Transvestite. What a fascinating old movie. Now, Michael Caine is getting in a curtained sedan with Lionel Stander. Now, Mickey Rooney is grooming himself in an art deco mirror as he barks orders at an unsuspecting Michael Caine. Whoever wrote this screenplay is uber-gay. I gotta get out, tv is on sleep timer.... |

another 'Mentalist' shoot
I arrived for the Society of Broadcast Engineers luncheon today at the Holiday Inn Burbank today to find that, well, it was not the Holiday Inn. The Burbank Holiday Inn had been transformed into the mythical "Rancho Rosa Inn". And, Rancho Rosa High School, home of the Rancho Rosa Toros, was having their 1995 Class Reunion. It was all signage for another flashback scene being filmed (Kodak 35mm stock, Panavision cameras) for an upcoming episode of "The Mentalist" (CBS, Thursdays 10pm, 9 central) I actually saw Simon Baker as California Bureau of Investigation consultant Patrick Jane, rushing back and forth past our meeting. Quite a diminutive man, smaller in person than he seems on the HDTV. I suspect that this episode will not air until February or thereafter. Just watch for the crime to take place in "Rancho Rosa". My phonecam snaps of the lunchtime visit to Burbank are here. No, I was unable to catch a snap of Patrick Jane, solving murder cases with his keen observational and psychic powers. Lest I forget, KFWB chief engineer emeritus Richard Rudman did our SBE presentation on the Emergency Alert System, and how it will change completely thanks to FEMA in time for the end of the Mayan calendar, hopefully.

the end of san francisco's pirate cat radio
Headline in tonight's CGC Communicator, a newsletter for broadcasters; "Pirate Cat Radio, an unlicensed FM outlet in San Francisco for the past 13 years, has fallen silent following the issuance of a $10,000 Notice of Apparent Liability by the FCC." However, they say they are still on the internet, where they have more listeners than over the air anyway. Story here. |

HD Expo Burbank Driving by the Burbank Marriott today I was reminded that HD EXPO, the little Creatasphere event was there today and yesterday. Saw the big Panasonic 3D truck, and a fleet of Pacsat uplink trucks, where pixelcub worked in Sacramento, once upon a time... |
